I Met Myself In Another Body [Poetry]

I met myself In another body
And I’ll never be the same 

Simultaneously exhilarating and perplexing 

We danced and sang. We simply existed 
We paid no mind to a single thing 
We laughed, we told our stories; we listened as if they were new 
We whispered in the night 
Cartwheels in my chest when you touched me 
They looked at us in wonder 

You read my mind 
Intertwined
Dripping with perfection 
We were one; the sum of a whole 

Though our heart denied it, the rising sun knew it would end 
You said you’d miss me
I thought, “How could that be? How could I lose me?"
You are me
I am you 

I felt your shadow while I chased my dreams  
I looked behind my shoulder, hoping to catch a glimpse
And one day, when I’d almost forgotten, it ruptured
The void inside me grew and grew

In my darkest hour, the angels descended and gave me grace—the antidote
They said, “Remember who you are” 
So I tried
Something shifted. Something bloomed 
I found peace 
But I’ll never stop wondering, seeking euphoria
